First Weekly Review (of many)
“Whenever I’m worried about the future, I look at how everything worked out in the past.”
One thing I’ll be doing regularly in my little corner of the internet is to review my previous week. I aim to do this every Sunday, so that I can start the next week off looking forward and not back.
This week has been full of many accomplishments! I started this website (yay!), and I got my library card reissued (double yay!). Am I the only one who thought one library card was forever? I could’ve sworn my mother told me such when I got my first one in elementary school… Imagine my face crack when the librarian told me I wasn’t even in their system! But, I’m glad I went. Now, instead of doom-scrolling on social media, I’m scrolling through the Libby app and finding all these books I’m either placing on hold or loaning out! Is this dangerously accessible? Yes. Will I be able to stop myself from abusing this power? No. No, I will not.
With that said, I started (re)reading the first installment of the House of Night series by PC and Kristin Cast. I read the majority of this series in high school, but I sort of fell out of it after a while, and then I lost touch with it entirely. But, with Libby, I’ve found myself rediscovering my love for it! Especially the approach they have to vampyre lore and their worldbuilding. It’s always fun—as a lifelong enjoyer of Buffy and Anne Rice—to see new takes on vampirism. I like the more modern take that’s overtaken the sphere, dropping the “big sucking thing” (BTVS, ep 1 season 1) in favor of some mystical process or even the employment of venom, as seen in Twilight.
It’s been an enjoyable use of my time, allowing me to stay blissfully unaware of the hellscape my country is becoming. Of course, that’s what happens when you have wholly inept children running the show!
Aside from that, I’ve written a total of 16,534 words in the last week! I’m averaging around 2,300 words a day, with my least writing day having 633 words and my strongest being 5,059 words. That’s a bit of a range! But, that’s what happens when I’m not working the next day: I can stay up late and get some extra writing in. I’m on track to finish my first draft soon, but I also don’t want to jinx myself. I’ll hit 50% completion today, if all goes according to plan.
Still, I’m trying to think of other ways to keep engaged with a growing community. I’m playing with the idea of starting a Patreon, but I’m not sure… If you have any thoughts, please let me know! I strive for utmost transparency, and, in that regard, I’m just figuring this out while I’m going!
All in all, I would rate this week a solid 5/5 just for my draft’s progress alone. If you’d like daily doses of my brain and/or writing progress, feel free to follow me on Bluesky! It’s a great place to get in touch with me if you ever want to talk about… pretty much anything!
I’d say that’s it for now. A pretty solid week, and a pretty solid amount of progress. Not too shabby!
Sincerely,
Me
